Michael Sparks Associates were appointed by UK Mail to design their new 21,000 sq m (226,050 sq ft) Midlands sorting hub in 2013, in a contract that included a 3,000 sq m (32,500 sq ft) headquarters office building, and the entire fit out and installation of sorting and processing equipment. The building was later taken over by DHL eCommerce.
The project, situated at Prologis Park, Ryton, to the south east of Coventry, amounted to £18.5 million, excluding equipment, and will replace their Birmingham facility. Michael Sparks Associates’ responsibilities included master planning, planning consultancy, and a full architectural service, as well as design coordination with specialist equipment suppliers, the design of signage and all fixtures and fittings.
